HP's nc6140, their first EV-DO laptop
Pretty much all the big players
have announced cellular data-enabled laptops (especially those
with EV-DO) by now, but HP's jumped in the game with an EV-DO laptop done up with Verizon. According to their site
we can expect their new nc6140 to be a 15-inch widescreen 1.2-inch thick / 6 pounder with either a 1.83GHz or 2.0GHz
Pentium M, WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0, and four USB 2.0 ports and a 1394 port as well. It should be available immediately on
their site starting at $1,399.

EV-DO? how much are they gonna charge for this?
$100 maybe $200 a month for a couple Mbs?
Just another way to make you think you need to be connected all of the time.
I will laugh as you all fall for the trap :)

FROM TFA:
Customers with any monthly Verizon Wireless voice plan can receive unlimited BroadbandAccess for an additional $59.99 monthly access. For non-voice customers, BroadbandAccess is available for $79.99 monthly access.
60$ for unlimited internet access anywhere you are. Thats not to bad. I pay 45$ from Road Runner.

"expect their new nc6140 to be a 15-inch widescreen"
Nope, it's got a "15-inch, wide viewing angle display".
I knew either the pic you posted or that description was wrong; turns out it was the latter.

I agree that it is dumb to embed carrier specific EVDO mini cards, consumers lose, no choice. It costs Verizon and Sprint LOTS of money to do these deals, and I agree with the poster above, having accessible areas to install the mini PCI card of choice would be a much smarter option.
