LG.Philips' 20.1-inch laptop display

Oh, LG.Philips, why do you taunt us so? You know we can't help but obsess over mammoth laptops, so is it really right show off a new 20.1-inch, WSXGA LCD laptop panel that apparently no manufacturer has committed to actually using in a laptop? Yeah, we know, we know....

As a software consultant... this is the perfect machine to just drop at the customer site. Most of the time their equipment is not up to par, especially for a consultant, and having a preconfigured machine where I can hook up the extra monitor the cusotmer gives me... that is a plus. Also, being able to take it with me and work at home during the weekends is a double plus.

well dont buy it, you know who this if for? the people who have say 2 places to be (home and work perhaps) and dont want to have two computers, two 20.1" LCD screens etc. granted, this would require a very large laptop bag, but not undoable.

This isn't for a desktop replacement. This is a mobile desktop. And carrying that much weight, seperates the men from the gay instant messenger kids.

If someone gave me a 20.1 inch laptop for free I'd sell it cause that would be horrible to have to carry around or find room for on a table when you are not at home or in the office. Can you imagine trying to use that huge monster on an airplane or in a crowded Starbucks??? Doesn't sound appealing to me.

If the laptop was reasonably thin & light, it might have comparable weight as some 15" or 17" laptops on the market today. The larger display would come in handy, though.

Is this being designed for the ever growing American's waistline? Kinda like how when they build a new stadium these days they add a few extra inches to the seats cause well, those beer drinking hotdog eating, nacho loving fans wouldn't be able to fit in them anymore?



My 12' powerbook fits fine in my lap, but my buddy's 17'er is way too big, but then again, i am one of those rare people who are actually at a healty weight.



Are they building it with bigger keys on the keyboard, otherwise when these people are typing, they may get a blue screen of death saying their fingers are too fat (remeber that episode of the simpsons where Homer gains weight to go on disability)

Even 15.4" is big enough for me! 20.1" is too big to carry. don't need that big for mobile computing.

This is built for people like me who need to get a development environment at a client site, (maybe on a ranch, maybe at a drilling rig). If all you need is a machine to do email then a screen this big isn't for you. But I don't know of a single consultant who wouldn't love to have this at one time or another, or all the time.

My Dell 15" notebook display is 1600x1200. For 20.1" I'd exppect better resolution.

I have a 17" HP Pavilion Notebook as a desktop replacement, and I would love the extra screen size. I never use my laptop as a true laptop, as far as toting it around with me all day. I simply enjoy its easy portability between home and my different work sites, with minimal components to carry, and quick set-up.



A 20.1" laptop panel is welcome with people like me, although I hope they produce WUXGA Clearview models.

Why does the discussion of 19+ inch laptops degenerate into "thats too big, its too heavy, what a waste - I get along just fine with my 12 inches, blah, blah, blah"? It strikes me as size envy.



Most users spend less tan 5% of their time transporting their laptop - and the rest working on it, so why not sacrafice ease of portability - for the 95% usability. As a graphic artist - I can tell you the big screen not only saves my eyes - but also make it easy to demo to clients.



12 inchers are great for road warriors where a 19+ would suck, but the convers is also true.
