cynicism aside, this would be useful for groups travelling to keep track of each other. more specifically, when one of your retarded friends gets the idea of taking a shortcut in an area none of you have ever been in. i travel up and down the northeast coast with friends via car, and this happens pretty often. also on foot, it'd be useful if a large group is meeting up, you have friends that tend to wander off in said group, or devising new geocaching games. for those of you who've never heard of geocaching, look it up. have some fun with your GPS.
