Microsoft's CES 2009 booth tour

Microsoft brought less instead of more to the show and was on hand mostly to highlight Windows 7. We peeked at the multi-touch functionality of the new OS (see the vid after the break), Zune, Xbox 360 dreams, and learned that less is more as far as Windows Mobile is concerned. Microsoft's booth also seemed to take the prize for grandest use of gaudy colors in a display, well done Microsoft! Gallery is below and the vid is just a click away.

last!! I don't see why its gaudy? Seems tasteful to me...
stefan @ Jan 12th 2009 8:13AM
@LJKelly
It's gaudy. And so is yelling "last".
superhobo @ Jan 12th 2009 8:21AM
Because it's not Apple.
And you're on Engadget.
Replying to the first comment, indeed I am.
LJKelley @ Jan 12th 2009 8:25AM
Oh, take a joke... I was taking a joke on people writing 'first' in their comments. And how dare you make me not last.
I couldn't figure out if it was engadget that decided it was to gaudy in which yes it would be their typical anti microsoft idiocracy.
KilgoreTrout @ Jan 12th 2009 9:20AM
You are as meaningless as your comments.
And an idiot too obviously
superhobo @ Jan 12th 2009 8:26AM
I concur with the last (first) poster.
It's not gaudy, take off your Apple goggles. (They do something, you know)

Goggles that finally do something?
TheCow5 @ Jan 12th 2009 8:38AM
wow! yoiu guys seem to knock microsoft at everything, if its not there product its the colour of its boot.
truly I say to you. Have some shame and get your head hout of steve jobs ass and he might live.
Andir3.0 @ Jan 12th 2009 10:55AM
It made you refresh the page twice (or more) just to post a comment bringing in more ad revenue for Engadget due to it's large userbase... didn't it?
Neha @ Jan 12th 2009 8:50AM
I so wanna play with the surface. Wish I was there.
Adam @ Jan 12th 2009 5:52PM
I actually like the booth, and being a professional designer I don't in any sense consider it gaudy.
ardentra @ Jan 12th 2009 9:58AM
that has to be the absolute worst video I have ever seen. Why on earth would you let this guy commentate the video. Some choice excerpts: "Wow zune section, probably the most zunes you have ever seen in one place". Windows Mobile: "Lots of passion here" dripping with sarcasm. What a jerk. Engadget I am really dissapointed in you guys.
superhobo @ Jan 12th 2009 10:29AM
Apple fans, jealous of Windows 7 pre-release success :D
Andir3.0 @ Jan 12th 2009 10:56AM
I wouldn't call it a "success" ... those servers were crap-tastic.
Chris @ Jan 12th 2009 11:23AM
I'd call the millions of people crashing the servers for the chance to use the beta a success. Not to mention the pretty good reviews it's gotten so far.
\typed from Windows 7
Andir3.0 @ Jan 12th 2009 11:31AM
Then the millions of people using Google, Amazon, Netflix, Fileplanet, etc daily downloading more content and hosting more web requests than this one event must be total failures since they rarely, if ever crash.
Chris @ Jan 12th 2009 11:33AM
Hmm...well on second thought my comment sounded more mean-spirited than it was meant to. Damn you emotion-less internet.
I'm not saying that Microsoft shouldn't have been more prepared. If you're offering a free beta of a major release to the internet...you should know what you're getting yourself into. That said, they corrected it quickly, and the software itself has been generally smiled-upon.
Joshua Walters @ Jan 12th 2009 1:38PM
Agreed.
I actually see at least two other Zunes a day, and thats not including my friends that have them. Thats out in the open at Starbucks, my local cafe (which is so much better than starbucks), at school, at work, etc.
I hate when people act like Zunes suck or arent popular. They are gaining strength.
And I really, really hate the Engadget bias against MS.
Engadget, drop the attitude, or Im out. I know one reader doesnt matter much to you guys, but Im sure Im not the only one.
IT News Blog @ Jan 12th 2009 10:04AM
cant wait for the final windows 7 version :-)
Maestro @ Jan 12th 2009 10:34AM
I got to agree with you...Horribly biased...
NevinM @ Jan 12th 2009 12:31PM
Microsoft was right to focus on Windows 7, it is a great OS. I installed it over the weekend on a 10 year old computer with half of the 512 MB of RAM and it ran like a snap, much faster that XP on the same computer. With Windows 7 Microsoft has done a good job of correcting the problems with Vista and still was able to add new cool features. I am impressed. The lack of Windows Mobile stuff is just due to the fact that the big mobile show is just down the road. If they don't show anything there, then I will be a bit alarmed. I develop for WM, Android and Palm(blackberry soon). I was happy to see something new from Palm, but I truly think Palm may have just bought them selves some time with this new release. There new phone isn't really that special. As for Apple, what did they show at CES, oh ya they can make a laptop that costs as much as a downpayment on a car. Nice...

"I asked for a car, I got a computer. How's that for being born under a bad sign"

Engadget is to apple as Fox News is to conservatives. Extreme bias leads to disbelief in the facts. You macheads at Engadget better be careful or you WILL start to lose readers/support.
