Give them an inch: Matsushita ups the ante with 103-inch plasma
The sign in Samsung's booth at CES may still boast that the company has the "world's first" 102-inch plasma TV, but rivals Matsushita Electric Industrial (AKA Panasonic) have added a whopping inch to their biggest display, giving them (for now at least) the title of world's largest plasma. Unveiled at CES, the prototype display has a 1920x1080 resolution and a 3,000:1 contrast ratio. And now that they've been beaten, we hear that Samsung is going to leave that 102-incher out with the trash when they vacate CES this weekend.

I prefer the 102 inch model; A hundred and three inches is a bit too much.
Nobuyuki Idei @ Jan 6th 2006 3:25PM
But is it 1080p?
Jester Lind @ Jan 6th 2006 5:28PM
Well, If they're just going to throw it out, I'll run over there and take it off their hands for them. Just trying to help.

RWWAGNER @ Jan 8th 2006 2:50PM

RAYGENEBONARINMYPANTS @ Jan 8th 2006 3:57PM
Is it worth the extravagant price?
doug @ Jan 8th 2006 3:59PM
It's funny everyone wows over this marvel. but let's break this down. contrast ratio: By whos standards have they been measured to? An outside party or each manufacturers own reference points. In the industry today there needs to be a standard reference to which this is measured. Size is cool but resolution is what matters. The larger the screen the higher the resolution needs to be. Lets compare apples to apples and see who really wins? What is really funny, in a few years LCD's with DLP technology will be advanced enought to surpass the plasma TV. Then we will be seeing who will make the largest LCD haha
Cope @ Jan 8th 2006 4:02PM
Once again...they make something for the rich. Show me these types of accomplishments when the make it affordable for the average middle class citizen. Other wise it's just hype. Or maybe they should drop their price a grand on old models every inch they gain...now wouldn't that be some shit
erik @ Jan 8th 2006 4:05PM
im happy with my 27' no name brand tv for everyone buys this they should reconsider and help me pay for my wedding 103' is overrated anyways
Betsy B. @ Jan 8th 2006 4:13PM
103 inches, yeah that's really usefull! It'll come in handy when I want to see a life size image of "feed the children" starving kids in Africa.Hey I know, why don't the egomaniacs at panasonic put their brain power to more humanitarian efforts, all 103 inches of it!
Steve @ Jan 8th 2006 4:16PM
Hey Doug, Ur in denial, size does matter, ask any woman. No one verbalizes it but everyone's thinking it....I'm just imagining what porn must look like on this thing!!
Mo @ Jan 8th 2006 4:17PM
If I don't like the crap that's on now, why would I want it bigger? Why would I decorate my home with a huge TV. Bigger ISN'T ALWAYS better!
Jessica @ Jan 8th 2006 4:28PM
My 102-inch plasma is just a sick joke. I'm not gonna be able to show my face around town with out the latest 103- inch *rolls eyes*
Mud @ Jan 8th 2006 4:29PM
Would be more beneficial if they put more time and thought into how they can better satisfy the customers wants and needs rather than trying to out due the competition by 1 inch...lol
Cody @ Jan 8th 2006 4:43PM
Yes, 103 inches is quite an achievement for a Plasma, but this is not this best to be put out to the public by far. I have a relative that works for Panasonic, he worked on the designs for this technology. He said they did this to try and outbeat Toshiba's new SED displays. With a promising 100,000:1 ratio, but they have not set a release date. SED is alot more powerful then Plasma or LCD. It never overheats, a .000056 reaction time at about 100-103 frames per-second. Plasma and LCD well be put to shame very soon...

I find it funny that some of you have plasma envy! Why dont you ask your wife is she happy with her big tv! LOL Dont be a hater... Good for those that can afford it.
Jackie @ Jan 8th 2006 5:10PM
as for as t.v's go its a nice one as all them or. but many of us can't even afford a 20 inch not because we choose not to but hey maybe if bush give better help to his own country maybe even the Wages would go up to help the less fortunate. but like i say great t.v for a size as for as any of them Money talk's Bull shit walks. since i am not wealth .Rather pay my bills
Lindsay @ Jan 8th 2006 5:14PM
If I want to see something that big or bigger ... I just go to the movies. Being a college student one does not have money to waste on 103 inch anyting.
Cel @ Jan 8th 2006 5:23PM
Why make something that 80% of us can't afford? I am happy with my 32 inch flat screen. If ONLY they can make a Plasma for under $1000 I would snatch one up. The world needs more important problems solved than who has the biggest TV. Grow up and think about the consumer and what is logical. An extra inch??? Wow! If the 102" is being thrown away just send it to me so I can sell it and pay off some bills!!
Jerry Jenkins @ Jan 8th 2006 5:31PM
I Could only imagine how much this thing cost. Can anyone afford it?
